Welcome aboard our new Immigrant website, complete with a brand new online shop and digital download store. We are very proud to publish our very first blog post. We’ve been busy here at the Immigrant HQ mapping out our next journey, so here’s a peek of what’s in store. We started this exciting journey back in the late 90s, when our pilot in command, Robin Porter, took flight into the heady clouds of the music industry and created Immigrant Records in sunny California. Representing his own personal experience of leaving his beloved homeland of Manchester for a whole new life in the States, Immigrant has become a synonym for the journey.
We have released over 45 music projects and signed over 75 respected artists who have joined us on our travels, hailing from countries and cities the world over. Our roster continues to grow with fresh new talent and we pride ourselves in creating a strong legacy of events, including a series of infamous ‘Off Sonar’ parties. A landmark event in our history was our collaboration with the Winter Music Conference, who asked us to co-host ‘Flight 18’, an event that took over the whole of the 18th floor of the Surf and Sand Hotel in South Beach, Miami. The event showcased Techno pioneers Anja Schneider, Adam Beyer, Mathew Dear, Alexi Delano, Miss Kittin and Drumcell. We’ve also left our handprints on the decks of the historic T-Bar in Shoreditch, where we hosted a year-long residency inviting the likes of Subb-an, ‘Evil’ Eddie Richards, Ralf Kollmann, Jens Bond and Mr. Statik to join resident and label owner Robin Porter for long nights of amazing music and dance floor mayhem.
Back to the next stage of our journey; we have already established ourselves as purveyors of top drawer electronic music, but being the nomadic souls that we are, we couldn’t quite yet unpack our suitcases. With Robin’s 20 year history as a fashion designer working with companies such as Nike, Stussy, 55DSL, Nike and Quiksilver in the US to mention a few, our lead man is now creative director of a Proper Agency based in Manchester and has invited us on board his new venture – ‘a natural progression of things’ as he puts it.
The plan? To create a new point of expression via a new fashion collection designed by Robin – a next level collaboration between Immigrant and likeminded creatives in the music industry, offering fashion and relevant accessory products that explore our culture. A collection with an identity that expresses our lifestyle – defined by a unique DNA, modern visual style and a bold graphic language. Immigrant celebrates people’s varied roots and embraces the various cultures of our family of artists. It’s a way of life. The Immigrant way of life.
We will be launching with a series of Pop-Up shops, the first of which will be held in Manchester on Sat Nov 12th at the Foundation Coffee House, where we will be presenting the new fashion collection along with a series of accessories and music. With a passion for the people living and breathing our culture, our target was and always will be to create a platform for creativity – an inclusive vehicle for expression. We look forward to welcoming you aboard, exploring our new co-ordinates and sharing it with all of you. Catch you at the departures lounge.
